For long-term investors CBD COP17 is an opportunity to push for credible and investable pathways to restore nature and address nature risk. COP17 represents the first Global Review of progress under the Kunming-Montreal Global Biodiversity Framework, and it should mark a shift from diagnosing the implementation gap to delivering practical, investable solutions for the years ahead.
Nature loss is a material financial risk that affects companies, supply chains, sovereigns and the wider economy. Healthy ecosystems underpin food and water security, economic resilience and investment environments, making nature a critical component of long-term economic stability and opportunity. Investors increasingly recognise nature as essential infrastructure for mitigating and building resilience to the impacts of climate change, and need governments to reflect this reality in economic and development planning.
Investors are ready to invest where the risk-return profile and policy conditions are right, but private finance alone cannot close the biodiversity finance gap. What investors need from COP17 are clear national implementation pathways, a stronger finance architecture and greater coherence across government, business and finance. Stable policy signals, investable project pipelines, credible transition pathways and interoperable standards are all essential to mobilising capital at scale.
The test of COP17 will be whether it helps turn biodiversity commitments into credible national economic and investment plans. IIGCC will continue to bring investors together to support the implementation of investable nature opportunities towards the science-based global goals set by the Global Biodiversity Framework.
We warmly invite IIGCC members to join us in São Paulo for an informal evening of dinner and conversations. This gathering offers a relaxed opportunity to connect with fellow members and IIGCC staff who will be in Brazil ahead of PRI in Person and COP30.
Please note this event is only open to IIGCC members.
