This investor-led initiative aims to ensure the world’s largest corporate greenhouse gas emitters take appropriate action on climate change in order to mitigate financial risk and to maximise the long-term value of assets.
More than 600 investors are engaging companies on improving climate change governance, cutting emissions and strengthening climate-related financial disclosures, in order to mitigate financial risk and to maximise long-term value of assets. Climate Action 100+ is coordinated by five network partners: AIGCC, Ceres, IGCC, IIGCC and PRI.
At IIGCC, we play a key role in supporting investors' engagements with European companies on the initiative's focus list. We have seen considerable success across Europe, with 100% of the engaged companies having now chosen to make some form of net zero commitment and Italian electricity and gas manufacturer Enel the first to score positively across all indicators in the Net Zero Company Benchmark.
Climate Action 100+ was launched in 2017 and has become the largest ever global investor engagement initiative on climate change, with growing influence and impact. Climate Action 100+ was initially launched as a five-year initiative (2017-22) but in 2022 announced that it would run to 2030.
Climate Action 100+ has established a common high level agenda for company engagement to achieve clear commitments to cut emissions, improve governance and strengthen both climate-related financial disclosures and transition plans, in order to create long-term shareholder value.
