The Role
We are looking for a Transition Research Analyst to come work within the Transition Research team which is part of the Corporate Programme department.
Your primary role will be supporting investor engagement on methane emissions and the oil and gas sector. Methane creates substantial risks for investors, not only through its physical climate impacts but also through the exposure of methane-emitting companies and financiers to transition risks (regulatory, competitive, reputational and legal). For these reasons, many investors recognise the need for deep methane cuts as a matter of urgency. This work will involve supporting investors with impactful research, building their capacity to confidently and knowledgeably engage on methane management and establishing and facilitating their collaborative engagements with high-emitting companies. Additionally, the role involves contributing to the broader climate and nature related work of the Transition Research team and the wider engagement activities of the Corporate Programme.
While this role is initially offered on a fixed term basis for 18 months, we hope that the contract can be extended, subject to resources.
Main responsibilities
The work will comprise the following core activities:
- Deepen and expand engagements on methane: Support existing engagements with oil and gas companies on methane via the Climate Action 100+ and Net Zero Engagement Initiative (NZEI) initiatives. Support the expansion of methane-related engagements with banks via the Banks Engagement and Research Initiative (BERI). Work with bondholders to help them engage on methane-related risks within their portfolios.
- Strengthen investor capacity to engage on methane: Provide practical research and analysis to help investors focus engagements and articulate the financial case for methane action. The ability to synthesize complex quantitative and qualitive information into clear and concise outputs is essential.
- Supporting guidance publication and member adoption: Resources for our members are typically developed in consultation with them and a range of external and internal stakeholders. Establishing consensus positions on complex topics and supporting adoption requires adept communication and management skills. Ensuring all outputs are fully integrated with existing IIGCC resources will require close collaboration with colleagues across the organization.
- Contributing to the broader work of the Transition Research team: Our Transition Research team develops resources to support investors assessment and engagement on both climate and nature related risks and opportunities.
- Assist with the overall research needs of the Corporate Programme: Part of this role will also involve working with the broader team to support investor engagement with companies on climate and nature risks.
