Our submission to the European Commission aims to help strengthen the EU's Shareholder Rights Directive.
The European Commission launched a public consultation and a call for evidence on the evaluation and possible review of the Shareholder Rights Directive II (SRD), with a strong focus on improving cross-border investment within the EU.
The Directive aims to protect and empower shareholders in listed companies by strengthening engagement and governance, in turn supporting more efficient and competitive EU capital markets.
The objective of the consultation is to address barriers that currently hinder investment – aiming to simplify access for investors across the single market. This streamlined framework would also be complemented by other measures to tackle fragmentation of the EU capital market and promote competitiveness and growth.
Last summer, IIGCC developed a position paper on broader EU stewardship, which references our position on the SRD.
