Human Resources Manager

The Role

We are looking for a proactive and organised HR generalist to manage the day-to-day delivery of HR operations. Reporting to the Head of HR, you will own the management of core HR processes, end-to-end recruitment activity, and support managers and employees across the employee lifecycle.

This is a varied, hands-on role in a dynamic organisation where priorities can shift quickly. You will be expected to quickly develop a strong understanding of the organisation, take ownership of your remit, manage competing priorities, and identify what needs attention without requiring close supervision.

Working closely with the Head of HR, you will help ensure that people practices are effective, compliant and aligned with organisational needs, while contributing to a positive, high-performing and inclusive culture.

This role is well suited to someone who enjoys variety, is comfortable balancing administrative detail with stakeholder management, and takes pride in delivering accurate and efficient HR processes. The successful candidate will be adaptable and flexible, able to operate confidently at both operational and tactical levels, managing day-to-day HR delivery while also contributing to process improvements and people initiatives as organisational priorities evolve.

Main responsibilities

The work will comprise the following core activities:

HR operations and employee lifecycle

  • Take ownership of day-to-day HR operations and employee lifecycle administration, ensuring processes are delivered accurately, efficiently and consistently.

Recruitment and talent acquisition

  • Lead end-to-end recruitment campaigns across the organisation, often managing multiple vacancies simultaneously.

Business partnering and employee relations

  • Build effective relationships with line managers and act as a trusted first point of contact on employee matters.

People development and culture

  • Support performance, development, engagement and culture initiatives across the organisation.

Wider contribution

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues across the Operations team on organisational projects and priorities.
  • Contribute positively to a flexible, supportive and collaborative team culture.

Skills and experience

Essential:

  • CIPD Level 5 qualified (or equivalent experience).
  • Proven experience in an HR Manager, HR Business Partner or Senior HR Adviser role, ideally in a small or growing organisation, comfortable operating across the full employee lifecycle.
  • Demonstrable experience managing multiple end-to-end recruitment campaigns simultaneously.
  • Strong experience partnering with and advising line managers on a broad range of people matters.
  • Sound knowledge of UK employment law and confidence supporting employee relations processes.
  • Experience developing, implementing and improving HR processes and policies.
  • Strong organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities and respond effectively to changing business needs.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build credibility and influence at all levels.
  • Practical, solutions-focused approach with sound judgement and attention to detail.
  • Comfortable working autonomously while collaborating closely with senior stakeholders.
  • Experience using HR systems and digital tools to improve efficiency and reporting.
  • Proficient user of Microsoft Office and AI-enabled workplace tools, including Microsoft Copilot or equivalent generative AI applications.
  • Roll‑up‑your‑sleeves attitude, willing to step into a wide variety of HR tasks to support a small, fast‑moving team.
  • Experience supporting employee engagement, organisational change and consultation processes.
  • Fluent in English (spoken and written).

Desirable:

  • Experience working in a not-for-profit environment.
  • Experience working in financial or professional services.
  • Interest in issues of climate change, nature and sustainability.
