Head of Membership

The Role

IIGCC is looking for a Head of Membership to join at a crucial time in the organisation’s growth and development.

The role will primarily focus on developing and implementing a membership strategy to support continued high levels of member retention and new member recruitment. A strategic thinker with a laser-focus on member satisfaction, you will ensure our membership proposition across all current and potential future membership categories is compelling and attractive.

The role will involve representing and championing IIGCC, its strategy, workstreams, and initiatives in membership discussions with staff from current and potential members, up to C-suite level. You will therefore have a strong grasp of the breadth and depth of IIGCC’s work to be able to articulate and communicate its relevance and value to members of the investment community.

You will have line management responsibility for the Membership Manager, overseeing their work and all relevant processes to support best-practice account management.

Commercially minded, you will work closely with the wider Communications, Development and Finance teams to ensure effective delivery of our overall membership strategy.

Main responsibilities

Membership retention and satisfaction

  • Develop strong relationships across the whole organisation to keep abreast of recent developments and ensure members are aware of all that IIGCC has to offer.
  • Evolve existing membership strategy to drive continued high levels of member retention with a constant focus on member satisfaction.
  • Ensure existing members understand the value, features and benefits of IIGCC’s membership proposition.
  • Track member engagement, satisfaction and recognition of value to develop our offering to members, increasing attractiveness of IIGCC membership.
  • Engage with members to gather feedback on the service they receive from IIGCC, either informally or more formally via consultations, etc. Share feedback with the wider organisation to support enhancement of our overall offering.
  • Provide guidance on action in relation to members with low engagement levels and identify any perceived gaps in our offering.

Membership recruitment and income generation

  • Deliver membership growth in line with organisational strategy and agreed targets for member recruitment and income generation.
  • Develop and promote updated associate membership proposition reflecting the diversity and nuance of the different type of organisations eligible for this membership category.
  • Proactively seek opportunities to recruit members, promoting IIGCC through engagement with key organisations, industry partners and stakeholders to achieve agreed annual growth target.
  • Provide comprehensive information and guidance to prospective members via a range of communications channels.
  • Lead recruitment meetings with prospective members, bringing in other members of the team where necessary.
  • Track a pipeline of opportunities and build a plan for progressing each opportunity to deliver growth (both in terms of member numbers and income).
  • Proactively seek and negotiate sponsorship opportunities for IIGCC members in relation to our flagship events, meetings and webinars to support membership income targets.
  • Regularly attend industry conferences to build relationships, make new connections, and raise awareness of IIGCC’s mission, activities and membership value proposition.
  • Where possible, develop and implement new ideas for generating additional membership-related income.

Aid overall team effectiveness

  • Jointly with the Membership Manager, be a key point of contact for the organisation, acting as a bridge between membership and programmatic teams sharing relevant updates and information.
  • Develop and embed processes to support best-practice account management, including new member onboarding and CRM use.
  • Oversee the Membership Manager’s work to deliver the membership strategy. Manage and motivate direct reports, providing guidance and support, and carrying out line management processes.
  • Work closely with the Communications team to better articulate the full benefits of membership and ensure that materials for members express this in an effective way that responds to members’ needs. Also work with the Events team to maximise opportunities to support retention and new membership growth.

There will be a requirement to undertake some international travel and a possibility of out hours working during peak periods.

Skills and capabilities

Essential

  • Investment industry knowledge and professional experience. This includes asset managers, asset owners, intermediaries and related professional service providers.
  • Successful track record of business development and/or membership, preferably within the financial sector or other service-based industries.
