About this event

We will be holding the inaugural IIGCC Net Zero Summit on 24 June 2024, celebrating success and showcasing progress towards net zero amongst IIGCC members and the wider investment community. 
     
Taking place at the start of London Climate Action Week, the summit, which will be held in Aldgate, London, will bring together institutional investors in person and virtually to celebrate the launch of the second iteration of the Net Zero Investment Framework (NZIF 2.0).
 
The morning will feature a series of engaging panel discussions on some of the key challenges and opportunities that investors face on their journey towards net zero. The afternoon will include a series of IIGCC member only interactive workshop sessions, which will look to foster the sharing of best practice and problem solving across key topics.

Dr Fatih Birol

Executive Director, International Energy Agency

Dr Fatih Birol (@fbirol) has served as Executive Director of the International Energy Agency since 2015. Under his leadership, the IEA has moved to the forefront of global efforts to reach international climate goals, safeguard energy security and manage the social and economic impacts of clean energy transitions.

Dr Birol took up his current position after rising through the ranks of the IEA, starting as a junior analyst in the mid-1990s and eventually serving as Chief Economist responsible for the IEA’s flagship World Energy Outlook. Dr Birol has been named in the TIME100, TIME's annual list of the world's most influential people. He has also been named by Forbes as one of the most influential people in the world of energy and by the Financial Times as the Energy Personality of the Year. He chairs the World Economic Forum’s (Davos) Energy Advisory Board.

Before the IEA, Dr Birol worked at the Organisation of the Petroleum Exporting Countries (OPEC) in Vienna. He earned a BSc degree in power engineering from the Technical University of Istanbul and received an MSc and PhD in energy economics from the Technical University of Vienna. He is an honorary life member of Galatasaray Football Club.

 

Kristina Kloberdanz

Chief Sustainability Officer, Macquarie Asset Management

Kristina is the Chief Sustainability Officer at Macquarie Asset Management (MAM) and a member of its Executive Committee. Prior to MAM, she was the Chief Sustainability Officer at Mastercard and led Corporate Responsibility for IBM. Kristina serves on the Global Investors for Sustainable Investment (GISD) Strategy Group and Blended Finance committee and the Taskforce for Financial Related Financial Disclosures (TNFD) taskforce. She is a member of the S30 with the Sustainable Markets Initiative (SMI); previously chaired the World Economic Forum's (WEFs)Trillion Trees Stakeholder Council and the Brand and Reputation Management committee for the Corporate Responsibility Officer's Association. Kristina has served on the Advisory Board of Outward Bound International, the Corporate Advisory Board for New York City Ballet’s School of American Ballet and the boards of Dallas Ballet, Ballet Oklahoma, and the New York Junior League. She holds a Bachelor of Business Administration from Southern Methodist University.

Simonetta Spavieri

Climate Engagement Lead, Active Ownership Manager, Schroders

Simonetta Spavieri is Schroders Climate Engagement Lead. She works in the Active Ownership team managing the delivery of the firm’s climate engagement and escalation action. Previously she worked four years at Royal London Asset Management, leading engagement on Net Zero and Just Transition. She also worked five years at the British Embassy in Caracas, leading their Climate Change and Energy work. She graduated with distinction in a Master of Science on Environmental Change and Management at the University of Oxford. She holds a master’s in public administration and a Hydrocarbon Management Graduate Diploma.

Liam Gallagher

Senior Vice President, Macquarie Asset Management

Liam is a Senior Vice President in Macquarie Asset Management’s (MAM’s) Portfolio Performance Group, leading sustainability for the Americas. He manages the environmental, social, and governance (ESG) aspects of transaction due diligence, investment performance, and disclosures across MAM’s Private Markets Americas businesses, funds, and assets. He also helps develop and implement MAM’s sustainability strategy and helps portfolio companies identify ESG risks and opportunities in their businesses. Liam joined Macquarie in 2021 from Goldman Sachs, where he spent five years developing and implementing a globally consistent corporate sustainability strategy. He also spent time in the environmental consulting field, performing due diligence and compliance audits, and establishing greenhouse gas inventories. Liam holds a Master of Science in environmental science from Louisiana State University and a Bachelor of Science in finance from The College of New Jersey.

Tessa Younger

Stewardship Lead, Environment, CCLA Investment Management

Tessa is Stewardship Lead: Environment for CCLA Investment Management. CCLA is the UK’s largest charity fund manager, managing investments for charities, religious organisations and the public sector. Tessa leads CCLA’s ‘Better Environment’ work, steering engagement with listed corporates and overseeing all stewardship on environmental issues, including climate change and nature.  

She is a member of PRI 'Spring' advisory committee for nature, the IIGCC UK policy working group and the GFANZ policy work stream. She has drafted consultation responses for CCLA to the UK government's Call for Evidence on ‘Scope 3 Emissions disclosure and the Department for Transport's 'draft national networks national policy statement’.   

Previously, Tessa was Head of Engagement at PIRC Ltd - Europe’s largest independent corporate governance and shareholder advisory consultancy, running the engagement programme for the Local Authority Pension Fund Forum (LAPFF).   

Creon Butler

Director, Global Economy and Finance Programme, Chatham House

Creon Butler leads the Global Economy and Finance Programme at Chatham House. He joined the institute in 2019, since when he has written and published on a wide range of global economic policy issues, including the interaction between macroeconomic policy and climate change, sovereign debt distress, the challenge of funding global health priorities, and the long-term implications for the international economic system of the pandemic and the war in Ukraine.

Before joining Chatham House, Creon served in the UK Cabinet Office as director for international economic affairs in the National Security Secretariat and G7/G20 ‘sous sherpa’, advising the UK Prime Minister on global economic policy issues.

Creon first joined the Cabinet Office in 2013 as director in the European and Global Issues Secretariat and designed the UK’s global Anti-Corruption Summit in May 2016.

He was also the British deputy high commissioner in New Delhi from 2006 to 2009 and has served in senior positions in HM Treasury and the Bank of England.

Adam Gillett

Senior Investment Manager and Climate Lead, Railpen

Adam is a Senior Investment Manager and the Climate Lead at Railpen. His role is to lead the strategic response to the risks and opportunities presented by climate change, as part of the wider Sustainable Ownership programme. This includes delivery against Railpen’s net zero commitment, the design and delivery of the accompanying net zero engagement plan, and working with industry groups and collaborative initiatives. His role also includes work on nature and biodiversity. He is a qualified accountant and CFA charterholder. 

Stephanie Pfeifer

CEO, IIGCC

Stephanie has led IIGCC since 2005 and overseen its expansion into a European-focused investor group. She sits on the Steering Committees for Climate Action 100+, the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative and the Investor Agenda, as well as the Executive Committee for the Paris Aligned Asset Owners.

Prior to her role at IIGCC, Stephanie worked in investment banking for over seven years, including as a senior economist at Morgan Grenfell and a VP at Deutsche Bank in London. She holds an MSc with distinction in Environmental Studies, a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and an MA in Economics from Exeter University. Stephanie received an OBE for her services to climate finance in Her Majesty the Queen's Jubilee Birthday Honours List in 2022.

Peter Taylor

Corporate Programme Director, IIGCC

Peter leads our corporate team, supporting investor engagements with companies through initiatives including Climate Action 100+, the Net Zero Engagement Initiative and Nature Action 100. He previously worked as a senior portfolio manager and Head of Corporate Governance at Aberdeen Asset Management in Singapore, London and São Paolo. Peter began his career at the International Finance Corporation and more recently has advised European development finance institutions on climate governance. He holds a BA in Philosophy, Politics and Economics from Oxford University and an MA from John Hopkins University's School of Advanced International Studies.

Mahesh Roy

Investor Strategies Programme Director, IIGCC

Mahesh leads the investor strategies team at IIGCC. He is also the UNFCCC's Marrakech Partnership focal point for finance, linking non-state actors in finance with parties to the convention. Prior to joining IIGCC in 2022 he led the capital markets team at CDP, following an 18-year career in banking and finance, predominantly at Macquarie Group where he led specialist teams in financial services and healthcare. He holds an MBA, Energy from Cranfield University.

Emily Murrell

Policy Director, IIGCC

Emily leads the policy team, which covers UK, European and international policy issues. She has over a decade’s experience working on climate policy and climate finance in the World Bank Group, at HSBC and in the UK Civil Service. Emily was a senior policy advisor in the UK Cabinet Office and in the former UK Department of Energy and Climate Change, including experience as a climate negotiator at UN COP summits. Emily has a BSc in Social Policy with Government from London School of Economics and an MA in EU International Relations and Diplomacy from the College of Europe in Belgium.

Misa Andriamihaja

Senior Investment Specialist, Private Markets, IIGCC

Misa is a seasoned private equity investor with expertise in ESG and climate change, with 17 years of global experience in financing, direct investments and private equity fund investments. Misa founded Green Ventures Capital in 2011, an investment company specialising in private equity investments in climate friendly, clean energy technologies and assets.

Freddie Turner

Investor Strategies Programme Manager, IIGCC

Freddie joined IIGCC in January 2022 to support on membership, updates and IIGCC’s initiatives, most recently leading our publication 'five principles to improve the next generation of net zero benchmarks'. Freddie graduated from the University of Glasgow in September 2021 with an MSc in International Banking and Finance, and has since had experience at an investment newsletter where he was exposed to multiple environmentally focused investment opportunities.

Valentina Ramirez CFA

Head of Climate Strategy Implementation, IIGCC

Valentina leads our work on climate strategy implementation, supporting our members in implementing our guidance to achieve net zero, invest in climate solutions, and overseeing our future work on emerging markets, just transition, and adaptation and resilience. Most recently she has worked as a climate finance consultant for Genesis Analytics, an Africa-based consultancy, and served as Deputy Head of Natural Capital Advisory for CrossBoundary.

Dr Adrian Fenton

Senior Investor Strategies Programme Manager, IIGCC

Adrian leads our work on the Net Zero Asset Managers initiative and Net Zero Investment Framework, supporting institutional investors in aligning their portfolios with net zero emissions by 2050. Adrian is a climate change and sustainability specialist with more than ten years of progressive professional experience across Africa, Asia, Europe and the Pacific. Adrian has a PhD in climate change economics and policy.

Faith Ward

Board Chair, IIGCC

Faith is currently Chief Responsible Investment Officer for Brunel Pension Partnership and Chair of the Institutional Investors Group on Climate Change (IIGCC). These roles enable her to advocate for better appreciation of systemic risk as well as design solutions that embed such risks, like climate change, into the operations of finance and investment, an industry she has served for over 25 years.

Faith’s other roles include member of the Ethics Investment Advisory Group for the Church of England National Investing Bodies; member of Investor Advisory Group for ISSB (formerly SASBIAG); Member of the UK Green Taxonomy Advisory Group; and Climate Ambassador for the National Federation of Women's Institutes.

Faith is a founder and formerly its co-chair of the Transition Pathway Initiative and currently NED. She was also the chair of the Reporting and Assessment Advisory Committee for the United Nations Principles for Responsible Investment (UNPRI).
