Workshops - Session 1

Please note the following workshops are only open to IIGCC members.

Attendees will have the opportunity to join two workshops from the list of options below. The first set of workshops will take place before a short break, after which the same sessions will be repeated and attendees can participate in a different session.

1. Engaging on deforestation: Tackling deforestation sits at the heart of the climate-nature nexus. In this session, we will present new guidance (associated with NZIF) on integrating deforestation into net zero strategies and outline next steps for joining IIGCC’s Deforestation Investor Group (DIG), both of which will launch in January 2026.

2. Embedding adaptation and resilience into corporate engagement: With physical climate risks intensifying, it is critical that investors are engaging with companies on how they are addressing these and building climate resilience. This workshop will explore how IIGCC is expanding its adaptation and resilience work into corporate engagement, outlining our approach for identifying priority companies for engagement, planned resources to support investors and how members can contribute.

3. Engaging on corporate capex plans: Capital investment (capex) plans are a critical indicator of transition plan credibility. This workshop will explore the concept of carbon lock in – what it is, how it can be assessed and how it can be used to evaluate the integrity of corporate transition plans, enhance the understanding of transition risk and support investor engagement.

4. Engaging EMDE companies on climate and nature: EMDEs are highly exposed to climate and nature-related risks. This session will explore practical pathways for investors to engage with EMDE companies on addressing these risks, overcoming challenges and seizing the opportunities. We will showcase case studies from global investors who will share lessons learned and effective stewardship approaches. This session will include breakouts on priorities, challenges and criteria for expanding engagement opportunities in EMDEs.

Speaker:

  • Stephanie Pfeifer, CEO, IIGCC
16:25 - 17:00
Panel: From influence to impact: The role of systems stewardship in net zero

Reaching net zero will require transformation across entire systems, particularly to support the transition of hard to abate sectors. In this panel discussion we will explore how investors can leverage their influence to address and overcome structural barriers to decarbonisation across the ecosystem and with wide ranging stakeholders. Our speakers will highlight examples of impactful systemic interventions, including sectoral initiatives and engagement with policymakers, and consider how these efforts complement traditional stewardship.

17:05 - 17:40
Panel: Seeds of change: Food and agriculture in transition

The agrifood system faces significant challenges as it is both highly exposed to climate and nature-related risks and a major contributor to these issues. This session will examine why agriculture and the food value chain matter to investors, the key levers for reducing impacts and building resilience, and how companies across the value chain can participate in the transition to a more sustainable food system. Our panellists will translate these themes into practical engagement opportunities for investors.
