IIGCC response to the ZEV mandate consultation

Our submission to the UK Department for Transport aims to help shape the Zero Emissions Vehicle Mandate.

This consultation, launched by the UK's Department for Transport (DfT), seeks views on the operation of the Zero Emissions Vehicle (ZEV) Mandate as part of the UK government’s commitment to review it by early 2027. It aims to ensure the policy remains effective in delivering the transition to ZEVs, while supporting consumers, industry and the UK’s wider decarbonisation objectives.

The main areas the government is consulting on:

• the current ZEV trajectory and annual headline targets;
• the effectiveness of existing compliance flexibilities;
• alternative policy approaches to address challenges identified; and
• other potential technical updates.

IIGCC welcomes the DfT's call for evidence on the ZEV Mandate. Maintaining the existing mandate is critical to providing the policy certainty needed to support long-term capital allocation to the transition and sustain investor confidence across the UK’s EV transition and wider green economy.
