IIGCC response to Commission consultation on the Renewable Energy Directive

In November 2020, the Commission published details of a consultation as part of a review and a revision of the Renewable Energy Directive II (RED II) to ensure that renewable energy contributes to the achievement of the increased greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions reduction target set in the 2030 Climate Target Plan for 2030.
This consultation invited views on increasing ambition in light of the EU’s revised 2030 GHG reduction target, energy system integration, hydrogen strategies, and technical questions on specific aspects of RED II such as buildings and offshore renewables (in line with the Renovation Wave and the Offshore Renewable Energy Strategy).
To inform the revision of RED II, the European Commission invited stakeholder views via a consultation, ahead of a legislative proposal expected for June 2021. See more info on the consultation process here. IIGCC prepared a letter responding to the consultation, available to download below.
