About the IIGCC
IIGCC recognises the growing scientific and political consensus that emissions of carbon dioxide and other greenhouse gases are contributing to climate change. IIGCC further recognises that companies and markets face significant risks and opportunities associated with climate change, either indirectly through changes in the regulatory environment or directly through changes in the physical environment. IIGCC believes that institutional investors and companies will benefit from a greater understanding of these risks and opportunities presented by climate change. Specifically, we believe that if companies are more aware of the impacts of climate change, this could lead to an increase in the long-term value of our investments. IIGCC members are aware that as responsible owners, who may have commitments to good practice standards of corporate governance and socially responsible investment, we can play a part in encouraging a proactive response to what is one of the most significant environmental threats to investors, business, and society. PositioningIIGCC seeks to occupy the overlap between "interested investor" (aware of the implications of climate change) and "responsible investor" (acting to manage the risks climate change poses our investments). IIGCC does not seek to become a "campaigning investor" (advocating immediate or otherwise radical changes in energy and economic activity). The following diagram illustrates IIGCC·s position.
