EventsIIGCC 2003 ConferenceClimate Change and Institutional Investors: Managing the risks & profiting from the shift to a lower carbon economy, 26 November 2003This invitation-only event was held at the Gibson Hall in London on 26th November 2003. The conference was supported by the Carbon Trust, the government-backed and business-focused organisation that is helping businesses and the public sector cut carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions. Over 200 professionals from across the financial and investment sectors attended the conference. Trustees, fund managers, brokers, analysts and consultants (from both the equities and properties sectors) were in the audience to hear the implications that climate change could have on investments in the short as well as long term. Keynote addresses by Rt Hon Margaret Beckett, Secretary of State at DEFRA, and Lord John Browne, chief executive of BP, were supported by presentations from individuals and companies across the investment sector: Swiss Re, DrKW, PruPIM, Schroders, Henderson, Merrill Lynch Investment Management, ABN AMRO, BNP Paribas, and also the IPCC, US Investor Network on Climate Risk, WWF-UK, Carbon Disclosure Project, USS and the LPFA. All of the presentations from the conference are available for download in the presentations section as are the biographies of the speakers. The event saw the launch of two reports by the IIGCC on the implications of climate change and policies to address the issue in the aviation and electrical utilities sectors. These reports highlight the disproportionate impact on companies, and that there will be winners and losers which investors need to be able to identify. A copy of the conference flyer is available on the web site which provided information on the conference agenda along with some background information. |
