1. COMMUNICATIONS & ORGANISATIONAL
DEVELOPMENT WORKSTREAM - Details
A joint letter from the IIGCC and UNEP Finance Initiatives (http://unepfi.net/)
was sent to the 26 European companies (see list below) that had
failed to respond to the Carbon Disclosure Project May 2002 request
for information in May 2003. See below to download a copy of the
letter.
CDP wrote to the 500 largest companies in the world by market capitalisation
in May 2002 asking for the disclosure of investment-relevant information
concerning their greenhouse gas emissions. The responses and a report
based on them are available from their web site at www.cdproject.net.
IIGCC feel that it is important to encourage corporate disclosure
of carbon emissions and management programmes in order for the financial
community to better understand how companies are managing the risks
and opportunities presented by climate change as we move to more
carbon constrained world. For these reasons, IIGCC wrote to the
European companies who had failed to respond to the questionnaire
to highlight our concern about the omission of their data.
We have been informed by CDP and several companies that several
responses have since been submitted.
