Aims

To implement strategy devised by the steering committee and/or activities which are not encompassed within the workstreams with a view to promoting the growth and development of IIGCC and increasing IIGCC’s profile, reach and effectiveness. 

Programme for 2005

IIGCC members spoke at a range of conferences. Some of these presentations can be seen below.

  • UNEP FI event on Investor Initiatives, Paris, February. David Russell, USS, Mark Kenber, The Climate Group, and Matt Christensen, Eurosif, attended.
  • Investment Markets and Climate Risk, Australia, 7 April 2005. A member of the USS RI team presented on the growth and activities of IIGCC.
  • Christian Ethical Investment Group: Taking environmental responsibility seriously in investment decisions, St Mary-le-Bow Church, 13 April 2005. This event, hosted by the Rt Revd & Rt Hon Richard Chartres, Bishop of London, included a presentation and panel discussion by a member of the USS RI team.
  • Sustainable Energy Policy Network (SEPN), 26 April 2005. Nick Robins, Henderson Global Investors, presented on IIGCC.
  • At his professional lecture at Oxford Brookes University, 27 April 2005, Paul McNamara, Prudential Property Investment Managers, spoke on ‘Socially Responsible Investment in Property – making a proper contribution’.
  • Institutional Investor Summit on Climate Risk, UN, New York, 10 May 2005. Peter Scales, LPFA, presented on IIGCC. Howard Jacobs, Trustee Director of USS, referred to the trustee training package in his presentation. VIEW PDF3
  • Investor Relations Magazine: Climate of Change: companies, carbon and the bottom line, London, 25 May 2005. David Russell, USS, spoke about IIGCC.
  • Environmental Finance: Climate Change & Investment, London, 6-7 June 2005. Mark Kenber participated at this event.
  • Investment Property Forum Scottish Conference, 8 September 2005. Paul McNamara spoke on ‘Sustainability and the modern property investor’.
  • Climate Change and Investment. Presentation to the Board of the British Columbian Investment Management Corporation, 15 September 2005, Victoria BC. David Russell spoke on behalf of IIGCC.
  • Socially Responsible Investment, 15 September 2005, University of Victoria, BC. David Russell spoke on behalf of IIGCC.
  • Financial Times: The Democratisation of Property, 29 September 2005, Paul McNamara spoke on ‘Sustainability and the modern property investor’.
  • Climate Change and Investors: Managing Risks and Opportunities. Political Risk 2005, Chatham House, London, 3-4 October 2005. David Russell spoke at this event.
  • The Climate Group/DEFRA/DTI: Climate Change: The Business Forecast, London, 5-6 October 2005. A report on the event is due to be published at the end of November. Peter Scales, David Russell and Mark Kenber contributed.
  • Climate Change and Investment. The 3rd Annual Local Government Pension Scheme Trustees’ Conference, Leeds, 20-21 October 2005. David Russell spoke at this event.
  • TBLI 2005, 2-3 November 2005, Mark Kenber spoke about IIGCC.
  • Sustainable Energy Finance Initiative (SEFI), SEFI Roundtable: Creating the Climate for Change, 27 October 2005, New York City. Mark Kenber presented at this event.

IIGCC also contributed a chapter to The Finance of Climate Change, edited by Kenny Tang.

Programme for 2004

  • Strategic Review - During 2004 the steering committee carried out a strategic review of IIGCC’s aims and objectives, programmes and resources, on behalf of, and in consultation with members.

Programme for 2003

  • CDP follow-up - Coordinate follow-up letter from IIGCC to companies who did not respond or participate in the Carbon Disclosure Project. Further Details...

  • Website - Organise the development of an IIGCC website.

  • Membership - Recruitment drive for pension funds and other members.

  • IIGCC conference – organise event to raise profile of climate change as an investor issue and the IIGCC, and build links with public policy makers.

  • Communications – highlight climate change issues and coordinate promotion of the work of IIGCC at conferences and in investment industry and public policy publications.
